Preparing the Toppings
  1. Melt cooking chocolate with 1 Tablespoon butter and add some cream at the end to give smooth texture or buy any plain chocolate bar that you like, microwave it for 20 seconds so that it melts and use it for topping
  2. For white glaze, use half cup of icing sugar, 2 tablespoons of butter, and a little water. Microwave butter for 20 – 30 seconds add sugar and some water drop by drop in order to get smooth paste. Add a drop of vanilla essence
  3. You can make syrup using half cup of sugar and half cup of water and giving them a boil to dip donuts if you like them very sweet.
Recipe
  1. Sieve flour and salt well
  2. Warm up the milk and add yeast in it till it dissolves
  3. Add 2 Tablespoons of sugar, melted butter, eggs and vanilla essence in the milk and beat it.
  4. Then add 2 cups of flour and beat till the mixture is well beaten.
  5. Add rest of flour and knead it on floured surface that soft dough is formed
  6. Cover the dough with damp cloth and place it in a comparatively warm place. I usually place it near my cooking area as this area is warm. No such placement needed in summers though
  7. Let the dough rise for one hour After an hour punch back the risen dough and it let it stay for another 10 minutes
  8. Then knead the dough again. Now your dough is ready and you can start making donuts
  9. Take out dough according to the size of doughnut you want
  10. You can roll it out in the shape of a string (say 6” to 8”). Join by overlapping both ends of this string and merge them very well so that you get a circle
  11. Grease your slab near your cooking place with oil or butter and go on placing the donuts on it with some gap
  12. You can also shape them with some round tea cup but I prefer making it like I explained above
  13. Let the donuts stay for another 20 -25 minutes so that the dough rises. In summers it will take 15 minutes
  14. Now heat the oil at very slow heat till it is heated well. Test it with a piece of dough, if it pops up oil is ready.
  15. Make sure the oil is not too hot, other wise the donuts will turn a very dark shade of brown right away
  16. Place the donuts in heated oil very carefully. Avoid punching them
  17. Now fry them at low heat. Peep through the lower surface very carefully. If it is beautiful golden, turn the side and cook it
  18. When they are fried golden, take them out of the oven and place them on a rack.
  19. Use the topping of your choice and enjoy these light and soft, freshly made donuts. I’m sure you’ll like them 🙂
