Falafel
We bring you this amazing Mid East delight which is both very healthy and appetizing. You can also have them in Iftar. Do give it a try and let us know how it turned out 🙂
Ingredients
For Falafel
- 1 Cup Chickpeas Soaked for 24 Hours in water
- 1 Onion Chopped
- 6 Cloves garlic Chopped
- 4 Green Chilies
- 1/2 Cup Cilantro or Parsley (Hara Dhaniya) Chopped
- few Mint Leaves
- 1 Tablespoon Salt or as desired
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 4 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
- 1 Tablespoon Cumin Powder Roasted and ground
- 1 Tablespoon Coriander Powder Roasted and ground
- 1/4 teaspoon Carom Seeds
- 1 teaspoon Red Chili powder
- 1-1/2 Tablespoon Flour All Purpose (Mayda)
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 Tablespoon Sesame Seeds Roasted
- Oil for frying
For Sandwich
- 2 Pita Bread
- 2 Potato (French Fries)
- 1 Onion Finely Cut
- 1 Tomato Chopped
- 1 Cucumber Chopped
- 4 Salad Leaves
- 1 Egg Plant Sliced and fried in oil
For Dip Sauce
- 1/4 Cup Sesame Seeds Roasted and Ground
- 3-4 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 Cup Lemon Juice
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt or as required
- 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Mustard Paste
- Herbs like basil if desired
Chili Sauce for sandwich
- 1/2 Cup Tamarind Paste
- 2 Cloves garlic (crushed)
- 1 Tablespoon Red Chili Flakes
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- Mint Leaves Crushed

Instructions
- Soak Chickpeas for 24 hours in water and 1 Tablespoon Salt. Strain them
- Blend the strained chickpeas and all ingredients given in ingredients "For Falafel" section well

- Transfer the mixture into a bowl, cover it in plastic wrap and let it rest in refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours

- Make balls out of the mixture, heat the oil and fry them over medium heat till they are golden and crisp


- you can also make them in patties shape for sandwiches and shallow fry them

- To make dip sauce, blend all the ingredients mentioned in "For Dip Sauce" section and adjust the spices and salt accordingly



- Serve Falafel with dip sauce

For Sandwich
- If you are following Nano's Recipes pita bread then make a thick pita bread as you have to split it, otherwise ready made pita bread divide it into halves and split each half open as shown in pictures

- To make Chili sauce mix/blend all the ingredients mentioned in "For Chili Sauce" section
- Apply the chili sauce inside pita bread's pocket
- Add Falafel patties and all the filings and top with Falafel Dip sauce

- You can also add vinegar dipped Cucumber and carrot slices if you desire

- If your Pita bread is thin then just roll it with fillings
